Courses organised by the MDBKA can be booked via our Course Bookings Scheduler. Before you can book any courses, you must Login to the training scheduler web page. To book a training course you will need a username and password.  If you do not have a training username and password – click on the “Book Training Course” button below. Alternatively select the “Training Login” in the dropdown under Members in the top navigation bar.  On the next page click the “Create new user account” link.

BEEKEEPING TASTER DAY 2023 


 

BEEKEEPING TASTER DAY 2023: Saturday 12th August. An opportunity to learn about bees here at Heaton Park. A talk from an experienced beekeeper followed by a group inspection of a hive (bee suites etc provided). There will be two sessions available. Morning 10:00 – 12:00 or Afternoon 13:00 – 15:00

Cost for each session is £25 per person.

SEPTEMBER BEGINNERS COURSE 2023 


SEPTEMBER BEGINNERS COURSE 2023: The Weekend Beekeeping for Beginners Course will take place on the weekend of 23rd & 24th of September 2023 and will be followed with practical sessions in the beehives in 2024. The fee will be £150 which will include a full year’s Membership of the Association (from October 2023). This includes valuable insurance for beekeepers and also access to the full range of member benefits, for example equipment sales. IMPROVERS COURSE FOR  2023 


This is open to all beekeepers who are members of MDBKA and have kept their own bees for 2 full seasons.

The start date will be Monday 17th April 2023 at 6pm and the course will run for 7 weeks.

Numbers will be restricted to a maximum of 30 A charge of £25 per person will be made – primarily to cover the costs of additional equipment etc.

The aim is to continue to develop a beekeeping knowledge as a follow-up to our beginners’ course, helping existing beekeepers to improve their skills. You will need to have 2 seasons experience of beekeeping for this.

Participants will be encouraged to work independently carrying out the different procedures and manipulations and sharing thoughts/ideas. 

·      Inspections – ‘reading’ the hive at the beginning of the season and onwards

·      Swarm Control re-visited with a look at a Modified version of the Demaree method we looked at last year Spring Clean

·      Hive Genetics and the ways it may be possible to ‘control/change’ these

·      Polyandery (look it up!)

·      The importance of continually monitoring disease
