Royal Jelly
Royal jelly is a secretion from the worker bee’s hypopharyngeal gland. The secretion is used to feed worker larva or in a slightly different form,it’s used to feed the colonies Queen or to produce new queens. If the colony decides to make a new Queen then Queen cells are produced and after the queen has laid an egg in each, the larvae are fed exclusively on Royal jelly. Because of its different chemical composition to brood food the workers bees develop into Queens each having the potential to form a new colony. Propolis
Propolis is a reddish resin collected from the buds of trees such as alder, horse-
chestnut, poplar, pine, and cherry It is used by the bees to seal cracks in the hive, reduce entrance hole size, to varnish the insides of brood cells, to strengthen comb attachments and cover dead intruders such as mice to prevent their decay. It has been successfully used to disinfect and treat wounds, to treat receding gums and to treat respiratory tract diseases. It has antibiotic, anti fungal and anti viral properties.
