Swarm Collection Service |
|
Manchester Beekeepers provides a swarm collection service and wasp killing service via it’s membership. The main contact for this service is Keith Hibbert who can be contacted by telephone ( Tel.01204 468717 ) or e-mail him on :-
Depending on where you live, he will sort your swarm problem or hand it to a more local member. Please note there is a charge for this service, usually around £30. The Society get many calls each year reporting a swarm of honey bees only to find a bumblebee nest. Please be aware that we are very reluctant to destroy a bumblebee nest as they are an endangered species. It is important that you are able to tell the difference between honey bees, bumble bees and wasps so as not to incur a charge to cover time and transport expenses. Below are pictures of different types of bumble bees, wasps and honey bees. Honey bees will be either collected and removed or destroyed depending on their situation. Wasps will be destroyed by chemical means but bumblebees will be left alone unless there is a serious threat to life or limb. |
