   AIMS OF THE M&DBKA

   MDBA (Manchester & District Beekeepers Association) was formed in 1895 and has the following to encourage and promote beekeeping in the Manchester area.

1. The Association offers regular courses in the practice and theory of beekeeping

2. An apiary and bee garden in Heaton Park where members can practice their skills and teach new members beekeeping techniques

3. The Association has an extensive reference library available to all members

4. The Association hires out various items of beekeeping equipment .

5. Bee medication including Bayvarol, Fumidil B, acetic acid, and other drugs can be purchased from the Association at cost price.

  6. The Association purchases items such as jars, frames and hives in
bulk to keep beekeeping costs down
7. The Association has a projector loan scheme for members who wish to give talks or lectures to the public.
8. We have an annual  open Honey Show for members and visitors to compete in various aspects of bee produce
9. An active group of area representatives will help new beekeepers with any problems  they might have

10. The Dower House is manned and open to visitors every Sunday afternoon.

Insurance

1. All members are insured against loss of colonies from AFB.& EFB. Up to two colonies are insured by membership fee and further colonies can be insured for 37p each.
2. We are affiliated with the BBKA which will automatically provide members with third part insurance.
3. Extra insurance is available for damage to equipment via the BBKA insurance secretary.
